highline ballroom: a lot of fun/interesting things about playing highline ballroom: for starters they have a back-stage with a full spread of cold cuts, bottled water, fresh fruit, chips and other snacks; a nice, clean bathroom, comfortable seating and plenty of space to spread out, hang out and/or warm up. there is a separate station just off-stage for the monitor mixer, who quickly dialed in my request. before we started, an announcer introduced us, which felt a little like being in a boxing ring before a match. being announced really gives a unique focus to the sometimes nervous, rushed moments just before a performance. the stage is very large so you can dance and move around without the slightest concern of colliding with a band mate or being hit by a headstock.  according to friends in the crowd,  the main sound person continually improved the sound as our show progressed, though it was pretty good from the start. at the end of the show, while we gathered our cords and pedals, the announcer got back on the mic and asked for another round of applause for the band, gave merch and next show info, and then helped remove amps and gear, allowing the band to exit the stage with dignity. we had a great time and would definitely play highline ballroom again.
